Our Birds

Here, we will introduce some of our birds – our breeding pairs and parrotlets mentioned in blog posts –,

and list any available parrotlet chicks and upcoming clutches.

Available Chicks

We currently have no parrotlet chicks available for adoption (please see pictures below of past parrotlet babies):

We have more pictures and videos of the four babies up on our Instagram account @cretaceous_critters, if you would like to take a better look! You can also email or message us on Instagram or Facebook for more pictures, videos and details!

Happy Springtime!

BREEDING PAIRS

McBitey & Braum

Among the first parrotlets to join our family, McBitey and Braum were the reason why we became an aviary and a small-scale breeder. These two found love at a pet store after McBitey had tried to find a home several times without luck, and after Braum joined her enclosure after being surrendered by his previous owner. The two built their first nest and laid their first eggs, and that is when we rescued the duo and brought them to our aviary, where they are allowed to express themselves the way they know best – by procreating and being parents, and sitting side by side on their swing in between clutches.

McBitey is a shy lady, and handling her requires patience, understanding, and the use of a low, soft voice. Although she is a very protective of her youngins, she is also a cooperative mother. Braum is friendly and only wants to feed his babies the best foods available; he requests chop up to three times a day when there are chicks in the nest box! Some of his offspring have been blessed with his big eyes.

If you have a blue or a grey parrotlet that is one of ours, then you most likely have one of McBitey and Braum's babies, but you can always check your bird's lineage on his or her hatch certificate.

Luna & Emery

Original members of our flock, Luna and Emery are all grown up now, and they debuted with their first fertile clutch in June 2022! Ever since then, they have been blessing us with their sweet blue, blue fallow, and blue pied babies,

Luna is blue pied and her partner, Emery, is also a blue pied whose siblings are a green pied and a turquoise. We do not have any information about their parents' genetics.

Luna and Emery are very friendly and hand tame birds, and they used to hang out with us and do tricks. However, the couple found love in April 2022, and soon after they started seeking a place where they could build their nest. We are expecting the babies of these two to be social and friendly as well!

English Ivy & Neptune

English Ivy, better known as Ivy, and her partner Neptune, otherwise known as Obi, have found love and brought together their cocktail of different genetics. They produce curious, friendly, bright-eyed babies, with mutations ranging from standard greens to pieds, to turquoises and dark factor chicks.

Ivy and Obi are one of our newer breeding pairs due to their young age (Obi hatched in late 2020 and Ivy in early 2021), but ever since growing and maturing together and producing their first babies, they have proven to be an invaluable breeding pair in our aviary.

OTHER FLOCK MEMBERS

Claddagh "Willow"

Claddagh or just Willow among family, friends and her veterinarian (hatched March 2021) is a grey female parrotlet who belonged to McBitey and Braum's first ever clutch. Her entire journey is explained in one of the blog posts as an encouraging example to anyone struggling with a baby parrotlet requiring special and intensive care. Willow helps us spread awareness of disease, especially renal disease, and disability in birds by proudly declaring that disability is not inability, but a different way of living life.

When her brother got adopted, Willow was still learning how to fly. Stunted at just a few days old, she was removed from the nest box at the age of 13 days. At that point, she weighed 5 grams, had no signs of pin feathers or eyes opening, and later had a hole in her crop. When her brother flew across the room for the first time and had his first taste of solid foods, Willow's eyes were just opening. Raising her to the point where she finally finished weaning took three months.

Willow is very friendly and loves her human mother. She is a cherished family member and an unofficial emotional support animal. She has since passed of her medical issues in her sleep.
